This Participatory Needs Assessment Report is the result of a research done by youth and children, for children and adults in the framework of the project Just Closer, co-funded by the European Union. JUST CLOSER aims at strengthening the respect of the procedural rights of children and youth in conflict with the justice system by valuing their voices and recommendations and promoting their active participation, while creating a child hub of positive role models and reinforcing skills of professionals working with and for children.
The Youth Leaders’ group in each partner country, after team-building and training, and with the support of a senior educator and an expert facilitator, have conducted a series of consultations with children and adolescents who are still involved in criminal proceedings in order to collect their perspectives on the implementation of the EU Directives starting
from the child friendly justice principles (see below). This has been done through a set of child-led and participatory research methods, such as interviews and focus groups. The help and supervision of senior staff members has always been ensured.
